Chef’s Challenge presented by SCE&G featuring The Lee Brothers presented by US Foods
The Chef's Challenge, sponsored by SCE&G, is a live, Iron-chef style competition that features local chefs whowill partner with area farmers and fishermen to create succulent dishes using an arsenal of mystery ingredients that will be revealed to them just moments before they compete. Returning to Coastal Uncorked for a second year in a row, Matt Lee and Ted Lee, presented by US Foods, will judge the Chef's Challenge. Matt and Ted, accomplished food writers featured in Travel + Leisure and wine columnists for Martha Stewart Living, hail from Charleston, South Carolina. The pair launched the Lee Bros. Boiled Peanut Company in 1994. Their first cookbook, The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook, won the Julia Child Award from the IACP and the James Beard Foundation Award for “Cookbook of the Year.” The Lee Bros. Simple Fresh Southern, their second cookbook, was nominated for a James Beard Award and recently won the IACP award for Best American Cookbook.
Also serving as a judge is reknowned chef Louis Osteen, winner of the 2004 James Beard Award for Best Chef Southeast. Osteen has achieved success in opening Louis's Charleston Grille located at Charleston Place. In 1990, Osteen entertained the Prince of Wales during a visit to Charleston. After successfully launching several restaurants, Osteen has made his home in Pawley's Island at Louis's at Sanford's Southern Smokehouse.
Chefs competing in this year's challenge are Chef Bradley Daniels of Croissants Bistro & Bakery, Chef Andrew Gardo of Sea Captain's House, Chef Corbett Rourk of The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, and Chef Eric Wagner of Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Defending his title is Chef Eric Masson, of The Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bistro.
